All About Marty Hanson

Marty joined the RLPOA board in 2012 and was elected treasurer the same year and Has served as treasurer ever since.

In that role he manages the financial assets of the organization which includes recording dues received, AIS donations received, state grant funds received as well as all disbursements. He prepares monthly financial statements for the board to review and approve. He also coordinates an annual informal review of the financial records of the organization and facilitates all tax filings.

Although Marty has responsibilities for the organizations finances, he is deeply concerned with water quality and water level to maximize the enjoyment of the lake.

The Hanson’s purchased their property spring of 2010. As a child always pleaded to visit grandparents lake cottage as much as possible. His dad purchased a cabin when he was in middle school. Lake life is part of his family culture.

They had found the lake much earlier on a trip to Ashland when they had stopped and rented a boat for the day on Round Lake—they were hooked. After an extended illness, the Hanson’s decided they needed a place to relax and enjoy life—leading to the purchase of the property. The lake helps to “slow down” life and listen to nature. He loves to spend a lot of time on the water or in the porch/deck.

Marty’s top moments on the lake are all related to his favorite hobby.  Since he was a child—boating (pleasure boat, fishing row boat, stand-up-paddleboard, and remote control boat). Every summer he goes for at least one full moon boat ride around the lake enjoying the still water, smell of shoreline fires, and watching all the different reflections in the water.

Another top lake moment: “In the just over 10 years on the lake, I have only once witnessed ice-out—it is an amazing experience."

Marty also says the 4th of July is a big holiday for his family— they enjoy sharing the lake activities and watching the fireworks together.

For Marty his favorite time of the year on the lake is the spring time so he can put the docks and lifts back in and let the boating season begin!

Beyond Boating, Marty also enjoys dabbling with computers and new technology. Golf also remains a challenging activity.
